FROM West Houston Assistance Ministries
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Kraft, a long-time dear and faithful WHAM volunteer. With us since WHAM’s very early years, her dedication to our cause will be greatly missed, as well as her beautiful smile. Barbara made financial appointments for WHAM’s Care Ministry on Mondays for many years; she was very committed to her Monday shift and we knew we could count on her as she was rarely out. As we spoke to fellow volunteers and staff who knew her, it was clear that Barbara had a truly Christian heart. It was something that showed through her actions and demeanor. She was very patient and gentle when talking with the clients we helped. When she told a client that she would be praying for them that night, we know that she was down on her knees - she took home a sheet of names every Monday to include in her prayers. Always kind to everyone, Barbara made sure to find a way to compliment and make each person feel special. She was that type of person. Barbara also invested in people and with her actions demonstrated that she didn't see color, but people, as is pleasing to God.
Even though Barbara was not a native Texan, she was the perfect example of a Southern lady - gracious and going to great lengths to be helpful. She even took Spanish lessons in often-used phrases so that she could understand and converse with our Spanish speaking clients.
After she retired from WHAM due to declining health, Barbara and her husband, Tom, continued to come to WHAM events. Barbara passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 23 and is survived by her husband and her four children, plus grandchildren. Even after her passing, Barbara continues being a blessing to WHAM as she and her family asked friends to make donations to WHAM in lieu of flowers. We are fortunate to have known Barbara, and she will be truly missed!
